Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation (AECC) has announced plans for a 900 MW Gas Plant in Morris County, outside Naples.
AECC is investing $800 million in the construction of a 900 MW natural gas-based generation facility. Construction will begin in 2026 and be completed in 2029. The project is estimated to provide approximately 280 construction jobs, up to nine permanent positions, and contract workers will be brought in to perform periodic maintenance.
The Naples Gas Plant will be a two-turbine, simple cycle generation facility located over approximately 100 acres. Since the plant will be within the Southwest Power Pool’s (SPP) footprint, it will add to grid reliability and resiliency within our area and across the rest of the SPP’s territory. The plant can also run on fuel oil in case of emergencies, such as what we saw during Winter Storm Uri.
We are excited to see new growth in electric generation, especially since the new plant will be based locally within our service territory. We commend AECC for working to strengthen the grid.
