Storm Preparedness

It’s important to be prepared for adverse weather events. Here are a few tips to get you started.

Prepare an Emergency Kit

Items to have on hand in the event of an emergency:

  • First aid kit
  • Nonperishable food options such as protein bars, oatmeal, canned foods, dried beans, rice, etc.
  • Batteries
  • Flashlights
  • Backup battery for cell phone
  • Gallons of water

Take stock of supplies regularly to make sure they are still usable and have not expired.

Additional Preparation Tips

  • If you or someone in your household relies on equipment for their health, like oxygen, make sure you have extra batteries, a generator, or other backup power source that can keep the equipment running.
  • Sometimes bad weather comes without warning, but if you have advance warning that bad weather is forecast, make sure that you have refilled any essential prescriptions and have other personal health and hygiene items, baby items, and food for pets.
  • The Bowie-Cass Electric Cooperative Mobile App is a good tool to have during an emergency.  With it, you can report an outage and follow the outage restoration efforts. The app is available both for iPhone and Android devices.
  • September is National Weather Preparedness Month and is a good time to prepare for upcoming winter weather.
