3/6/25 Afternoon Update
We've made decent progress so far today, even with a transmission outage setback. The transmission outage is affecting members in Bowie & Red River counties. There are 2 poles that must be replaced and 6 others that need to be straightened. These repairs will take several hours to complete, but once completed, most of, if not all of Red River counties outages should be restored and a sizeable chunk of Bowie county will also be restored. We've shared several pictures of the transmission damage to give members an idea of the work that needs to be done to make repairs.
Although you may not see them, we have crews spread all throughout our service territory working to restore power. That includes all available BCEC personnel and line crews from 7 of our sister cooperatives and several Right-of-Way crews. We serve over 6,700 miles of line that run through thickly wooded (and sometimes swampy) areas that are not always along the beaten path.
There are numerous spots around the territory where we cannot get our trucks into largely due to flooding or the ground being too soft. Our guys have had to walk out to damage locations and physically climb, which takes far more time than being able to use a bucket or other equipment. When possible, we're using available swamp equipment to help speed up the process.
We still have a long way to go, but we are getting closer to our goal. Even so, some outages WILL last into tomorrow and possibly even Saturday.
