Remembering the Gentleman of the Board Room

Glen RaglandGlen Ragland represented Morris County on the Board of Directors of Bowie-Cass Electric Cooperative for 23 years. Recently, President Steve DeLaughter and General Manager Mark Boyd reflected on what it was like serving Bowie-Cass Members with him on the Board.

“Glen was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. One of the kindest and most caring people I’ve ever known. He always brought that same care and selflessness to his decision-making throughout the many years we served together on the board at Bowie Cass. His passion and dedication to the proverbial “member at the end of the line” will be missed, yet his commitment to sound fiscal decision-making will benefit the members and employees for years to come.” - Steve DeLaugher, Board President.

"Glen Ragland was the unique combination of strength and gentleness that you rarely see in a man. He wasn’t loud or boisterous, but when he spoke, you listened because the things he said were wise and well thought out. On several occasions during a Board meeting, when we had finished an engaging round of discussion on a particular topic, and we were getting down to having to make a decision, Glen would look down the table at me and say, “OK Mark, what is management’s recommendation?” It was his way of saying in his gentlemanly way, “It’s time to make a decision. Give us your input, and we’ll decide what’s best for the members.” Any time Glen brought a member issue to me and he did that on their behalf quite often, he never made a spectacle of it. He would get me off to the side and hand me a note with usually a name and phone number on it. He would then explain the situation as he knew it and ask me to give them a call. He’d always finish with, “I know you’ll do the right thing.” It was like encouragement and his expectation all in one.

Glen was a man who loved God, loved his family, and loved serving the Coop. He will be greatly missed by all of us who knew him. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work with Glen for the past 15 years & I wish the world had more gentlemen like him!” – Mark Boyd, General Manager.
