Barron Christensen says "Farewell"
Wednesday, Dec 28, 2011 12:00am Ecclesiastes 3:1 says that “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven.” For a little over 16 years I have been honored with a season of employment at Bowie-Cass Electric Cooperative. And now, as fall gives way to winter, my season of work will give way to a new season - retirement. I will finish my time with the Cooperative on December 31st.
This change will certainly be bittersweet. I am really looking forward to having the time to do some traveling and to be a part of my grandkids lives as they grow up. But I will, without question, miss the day-to-day interaction with my Bowie-Cass family. We have shared some great times together and have gone through some extremely difficult times together. I tell my employees and those who want to be employees that life is too short to not enjoy the work that you do and those who work side by side with you. Great co-workers can make almost any job enjoyable. I have been blessed to work alongside some great people during my time here. They have become a big part of my life and as I move on to this next season, I will go with mixed emotions.
During my time here I have also had the pleasure of meeting many of you. We live in a great part of the country that is made great by the folks who choose to call Northeast Texas home. I couldn’t leave without thanking the members of Bowie-Cass for the privilege of serving you through this Cooperative. As in any job, there are day to day challenges, but there is also day to day encouragement that has been provided by many of you through the years. Thank you. I may not be an employee of the Cooperative after the end of this year, but I will always be an advocate for electric cooperatives in general and this one in particular. I have loved working in a business that doesn’t focus on profit but on service. Our goal has not been to see how much money we can make, but instead to provide the best service that we can at the lowest cost. It is an honorable,
Worthwhile business and I am proud to have been a small part of it for a little while. So, as I go, I would ask you to continue to support this Cooperative because it is your Cooperative. It is run by competent, dedicated people working hard for you. The future of this business holds many challenges, but of one thing you and I can be certain; this Cooperative will be doing its best to make decisions that will benefit the membership. Finally, as I reflect upon my time at Bowie-Cass Electric Cooperative, another Bible verse comes to mind. Philippians 1:3. “I thank my God upon every remembrance of you.” Godspeed.
